Lately the world just feels… a bit insane.
Everything moves so fast. Everyone seems angry about something. We wake up and absorb bad news before we’ve even properly opened our eyes, then somehow continue on with work, life, bills, expectations and pretending we’re not exhausted by all of it.
I think Grace came from craving the opposite of that.
Not silence exactly — but comfort. Familiarity. The feeling of coming home after the world has taken too much out of you.
When I started drawing this piece, I kept thinking about Mother Mary less as a religious figure and more as a symbol people return to when they need softness, reassurance or something steady to hold onto. Whether someone is religious or not almost doesn’t matter to me. It’s the feeling attached to her that interested me — protection, compassion, forgiveness and calm in the middle of chaos.
There’s also something strangely vulnerable about creating a work like this now. In a time where everything feels ironic, performative or disposable, and so I wanted to lean into sincerity. I want to slow down for a second. To feel something gentle. To remember what actually matters.
For me, this work became about returning home — emotionally, mentally, spiritually — whatever that means. Coming back to yourself. Coming back to people you love. Coming back to stillness after the noise.
I think we all need a little more grace right now.
